Genting Highlands

Genting Highlands is located at an altitude of 1,800 metres above sea level and is one of the most developed hill holiday resorts in Malaysia. Its temperature ranges from 15°C to 24°C throughout the year and is a place for you to escape the heat of the cities. This place is a popular destination for locals as well as foreign visitors.

Genting Mountains

It takes approximately 1 hour to drive up the hill from the city of Kuala Lumpur, a distance of about 51 km. It is also called the City Of Entertainment and rightly so as you will be able to enjoy the various attractions and modern facilities on this hill resorts.






Some interesting points to note about Genting Highlands..

  • Has entertained visitors from many different countries of the world.
  • The Genting Awana Skyway is the longest cable car in South East Asia. You will be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the mountains and valleys from the cable car.
  • There are many hotels with more than 10,000 guest rooms and suites for you to choose from. The First World Hotel is the biggest hotel in the world but the size of the rooms are relatively smaller compared to Awana Genting Highlands. Take note that Awana Genting Hotel is not located at the peak of the highlands. The high end hotels include Crockfords and Highland Hotels. Other hotels are Resort Hotel, Genting SkyWorlds Hotel and Genting Grand
  • The nation's only casino is located here.
  • Genting International Convention Centre has hosted many world class conferences, seminars and meetings.
  • There are more than 100 dining outlets here. KFC, MacDonald, Chinese, Japanese, Thais, western and other fast food chain restaurants are all here for you to choose from.


Skyway Cable Cars

There are two cable cars in used, Awana Skyway or Genting Skyway. The newer Awana Skyway is usually in operation. The Genting Skyway is only in used when Awana Skyway is under maintenance.

The Awana Skyway cable car system has 3 stops. It starts at Awana Station and ends at SkyAvenue Station where most of the attractions are located. It takes 10 minutes to reach the top station with a stop at Chin Swee Station. Awana Station is located at Awana Bus Terminal where you can park your cars. There are approximately 4,500 parking bays at the Awana Transportation Hub. 

The one way fare for a standard gondola is RM11/person and RM19/person for a return ticket. The glass floor gondola one way fare is RM32 and RM54 for a return ticket, enable you to get a better view of the mountains. Ride for children below 90cm are complimentary. Booking online is usually cheaper.

You are allow to take a cabin-sized luggage bag on the gondola. There is a luggage storage facility at Awana Bus Terminal if you need to store bigger luggage.

The Genting Skyway operates from Gohtong Sentral Station to Resorts World Station at the peak. 

Genting Highlands Attractions

1. Shopping & Food

Besides the cool and refreshing air at the highlands, there are 3 shopping malls that you can go to. The Awana SkyCentral is where the Awana Station is. It is also the location of Awana Transport Hub. Go around this mall before taking the gondola.

The Genting Highlands Premium Outlets (GPO) is located just opposite the Awana Station. The only other premium outlets in Malaysia is the Johor Premium Outlets. There are many branded goods that you can get at reasonable prices for promotional items.

Besides shopping, there are many restaurants that you can dine in at GPO. Some of them are The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Starbucks, Madam Kwan's, Burger King, Boost, Dome, Peranakan Place, Paris Baguette, The Chicken Rice Shop, The Grove and Old Town White Coffee.

Once you reached the SkyAvenue Station, you will be able to shop at SkyAvenue Mall. This latest mall on the top of Genting Highlands have plenty of outlets offering Malaysian, Vietnamese, Japanese, Thais and Western cuisines. Branded outlets such as Adidas, Bonia, Clarks, Esprit, Giordano, Longines and Puma are also here.

2. Sky Symphony

This theatre of lights, sound and visual is FREE for all to watch and is located at Level 1, SkyAvenue. The show will be on every hour from 10am to midnight everyday. See the video below.


While at SkyAvenue, you can also go to the Alive Museum and Bona Cinemas. The Jungle Gym is for children to enjoy some activities.


3. Jungle Trekking & Golf Resort

For those of you who enjoy the nature, try jungle trekking and horse riding at Awana ranch. You will discover the many beautiful flora and fauna that abounds in this place.

Golf enthusiasts will find the 18-hole golf course in Awana Golf and Country Resort a challenging course. The cool weather makes this course one of the favorites among golfers and many come back here for more.

4. Talking Garden

The Talking Garden Park is located near Genting SkyWorlds Hotel. The garden is open daily from 8am to 9pm. You will be able to see the city of Kuala Lumpur from here in a clear day. Spend about 30 minutes here and see the plants and flowers that are thriving here. You can park at the SkyWorlds Hotel and walk here.

5. Theme Parks

You can spend a day at the Genting SkyWorld Theme Parks. This outdoor theme parks has many rides that you can take but the queue can be long if you go during the weekends or the public holidays.

The Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park has more than 20 rides and is suitable for family with young children.


6. Bowling

Genting Bowl is located at Level 3, First World Plaza with 20 lanes for you to have a fun time of bowling with your families and friends. Promotional rates are available during off-peak time. Operating hours are from 3pm-11pm(Mon-Thurs) and 12pm-11pm(Fri-Sun and Eve of Public Holidays)


7. Vision City Video Games Park

This video games arcade is located at Lower Lobby, Genting Grand and has many attractive prizes if you are able to achieve a certain challenges. Operating hours are from 10am-10pm(Mon-Thurs) and 10am-11pm(Fri-Sun and Eve of Public Holidays)

Getting Here

There are many ways to get here. You can take the Genting Express Bus from major bus terminals such as Pudu Sentral, KL Sentral and Terminal Bersepadu Gombak. The one way fare including the SkyWay will cost you about RM20 per person. There are also buses from KLIA, KLIA2, northern and southern parts of Peninsula Malaysia and Singapore.

Going up by car or taxi is convenient and hassle free as the roads up the mountains are wide and well maintained. If you have your own car, check and make sure that the radiator water is enough to cushion the effect of overheating due to the drive up the hill.

Other than that, do a slow drive up and enjoy the beautiful scenery and cool air up the mountains.
