Taiping Zoo

Taiping Zoo

If you are visiting Maxwell Hill in Taiping, make plan to visit this well kept zoo at the foot hill of this popular hill resort. Located just beside Taiping Lake Gardens, this zoo is an ideal place for animals to thrive in their natural habitats.

The natural lakes where lotus plants grow adds to the beauty of the surroundings. Being the wettest part of the country means that the lush greeneries here thrive and the still undeveloped forest makes it an ideal holiday destination for the entire family.

This huge signboard is located outside the zoo. You will not miss it

The healthy elephants that roam within the confine of the zoo

Well managed by Taiping Municipal Council, this zoo covers an area of 34 acres with more than 1,300 animals. This is the place to see the many species of birds, mammals and reptiles that you will remember for a long time to come. The zoo was set up in the year 1961 and is the oldest zoo in the country.

Visitors have a choice of visiting the zoo everyday including public holidays either in the day time from 8:30am to 6:00pm or the night safari from 8:00pm to 11:00pm. The night safari zoo features the nocturnal animals. If you have the time, there is no reason why you can't go for both sessions.

The entrance fee for the day zoo is RM5.00 per adult and RM3.00 per child.

The entrance fee for the night safari zoo is RM10.00 per adult and RM6.00 per child.

The Animals

While here, take a quick tour by taking the mini train and then a closer scrutiny of the animals by walking around the zoo. Try looking at them during the feeding time that occurred everyday from 10am to 12pm. Some of the animals that you will not miss include:

  • Elephants
  • Tigers
  • Orang Utans
  • Black Panthers
  • Zebra
  • Deer
  • Ostrich
  • Giraffe
  • Lion
  • Hippopotamus
  • Hornbills
  • Night Heron
  • Tapir
  • Rhino

The deer are among the animals that you will see near the exit of the zoo

Getting To Taiping Zoo

If you are driving from Kuala Lumpur, head for PLUS North South Expressway and exit at Kamunting Toll Plaza. From here, go straight along Jalan Kamunting Lama and you will pass three traffic lights before reaching the zoo. You will not lose your way as there are many signages along the way.

If you are coming from the Penang, exit at Changkat Jering Toll Plaza and turn right at the traffic light. Go straight along Jalan Taming Sari and follow the signages towards Taiping Zoo/Bukit Larut/Taiping Lake Gardens.
