The Greatest Tourism Carnival 07

All travellers take note that there will be a travel fair called The Greatest Tourism Carnival 07 from June 22 to June 24 at Putra World Trade Centre, directly opposite the MaLL Shopping Centre. There will be travel offers and promotions with discounts up to 70% by more than 100 airlines, hotels, resorts and tour operators.

There will be travel contest worth over RM300,000 from the early bird surprises, visitors contest, buyers contest and pavilion contest.

Entrance fee for adults is RM3 while admission for children is free.

The three-day event opens from 10am to 9pm on Friday, and from 9.30am to 9.30pm during the weekends.



Hypermarkets Slash Prices

In line with the effort by the government to curb inflation, six hypermarkets have slashed prices of their products by between 5% - 50%. This price down will take effect until Dec 31, 2007. The six hypermarkets and the percentage of price down are:

  • Carrefour have slashed 5%-30% on 2,000 items from May 29
  • Giant have slashed 5%-25% on 2,300 items from June 1
  • Jaya Jusco have slashed 5%-15% on 500 items from June 5
  • Mydin have slashed 5%-35% on 10,000 items from June 11
  • Tesco have slashed 5%-35% on 900 items from June 4
  • The Store have slashed 5%-50% on 1,000 items from June 12

This reduction will help the government to achieve a lower inflation rate of 2.5% this year.



Malaysia Airlines "Let's Fly Malaysia" Campaign

Malaysia Airlines will be launching the "Let's Fly Malaysia" campaign effective 20th June 2007. Fares on offer is as low as RM1 for domestic travel and RM10 for international destinations. The "50 hour Open House" online promotion will start at 9am 20th June 2007 and end on 11am 22nd June 2007 Malaysia time. The travelling period in the online promotion is from Sept 3 2007 - Sept 30 2007.

All fares quoted exclude airports taxes, fuel surcharges and other fees, and are applicable for one-way travel only.



Malaysia International Aerospace Adventure is Delayed

Due to inevitable circumstances, the Malaysia International Aerospace Adventure is now postponed from 5th June 2007 to 28th July 2007. This exhibition will now be held from 28 July - 30 Sept 2007. Venue remains the same at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang, Selangor.



KLIA Transit Passengers Tour

Transit passengers in KLIA for more than 4 hours are now able to visit the city of Kuala Lumpur and its surrounding. Under the Discover Kuala Lumpur programme, visitors will be transported on the ERL KLIA express train to KL Sentral. From here, they you will be brought to the various places of attractions in the city. Airport Tax Cut at LCCT

Airport taxes at LCCT in Sepang and Kota Kinabalu have been cut for both domestic and international travels effective 1st June 2007. For domestic travel, the airport tax has been reduced to RM6 from RM9. International travel airport tax has been reduced to RM25 from RM41 (LCCT Sepang) and RM1 (LCCT Kota Kinabalu).

This would make airfare and flights more affordable at both of the LCCTs.



Subang Jaya 10km Run

LCCT Is Now WiFi-Enabled

The Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) in Sepang is now equipped with FREE WiFi service to strengthen its position as the best low-cost airport in this region. The LCCT is the second airport in Malaysia after KLIA to be WiFI-enabled. KLIA was equipped with the service last September, 2006.

This WiFi service is free to tenants, passengers and service providers at both the international and domestic departure lounges as well as the public departure concourse.



Subang Jaya-LCCT Shuttle Service

Good news to all travellers from Subang Jaya to Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) airport. The shuttle service called Star Shuttle is now available as an alternative transport to all who will be going to LCCT from Subang Jaya. The air-conditioned 36-seater buses can now be boarded from outside the entrance of Subang Parade in front of Digital One for a one way priced of RM9 per passenger.

The shuttle service runs from 4:45am to 9:30pm. The frequency of the buses is between 75 minutes to 90 minutes during peak hours in the early morning and a 2 hours interval during non-peak hours. Tickets can be purchased from the Utamagas staff seated at the table next to the bunting located at the hub where the buses stop at the entrance of Subang Parade.

Schedule information can be obtained by contacting +6 03 4043 8811 or +6 017-250 3377. The schedule is also shown on the notice board inside Subang Parade. Make sure you are at the bus stop 30 minutes before the departure time.



Anna and The King Musical

Renowned French international brand Lacoste range of apparel boutique is now available at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The duty-free boutique is now a part of the Eraman Malaysia retail outlets. Eraman Malaysia is currently marketing other international brands such as Gianfranco Ferre, Thomas Sabo, Mango, Toscow, Hunting World, Alviero Martini, Tie Rack, Guy Laroche, Calvin Klein, Trussardi and Burberry. The retail outlets carrying these brands are located at KLIA Satellite Building.





New Budget Firefly Airline

The latest budget airline owned by Malaysia Airlines System called FIREFLY will start operation on April 2, 2007. With Penang as its base, the new airline will be offering flights from Penang to Kota Baru, Kuantan, Kuala Terengganu, Langkawi, Phuket and Koh Samui. It will initially use two 50-seater Fokker 50 aircraft for its operation.

In conjunction with the launch, the airline will be offering 2,000 free seats next month when it starts operation. Travellers can start booking through Malaysia Airlines' 24-hour call centre by calling

Bookings can also be made at MAS ticketing offices in Penang, Kuala Lumpur, KLIA, Kota Baru, Terengganu, Kuantan and Langkawi. Online booking will be available from middle of May, 2007 through the Firefly website.



Five-Year Visa

In a bid to boost the country's tourism industry from now until year 2010, foreigners married to Malaysians can now stay in the country for five years without having to go to the Immigration Department annually to have their passports endorsed.

This decision was announced by the Governement on March 15, 2007 to ease the burden of foreign spouses who have to get their passports endoresed annually. The new regulation would take immediate effect. Foreign spouses can sigh a huge relief now that they do not have to endure the many red tapes as in the past.



Security screening at Malaysian airports

The new security rules on Liquids, Gels and Aerosols restriction will take effect on Saturday, March 31, 2007 and will apply to all international passengers departing from or changing planes (commercial flights) at Malaysian airports, i.e. KLIA, Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and Langkawi international airports. Japan, US, EU nations, Britain, Hong Kong, South Korea and the Phillipines had implemented the new security restrictions.

It basically means that if you want to take items such as drinks, creams, toothpaste, lipstick, lip balm, perfumes, gels, sprays or similar substance through the screening point, you have to make sure that the followings are adhered to:

  • Each item is 100ml or below
  • All items are placed in a transparent one litre bag
  • Only one bag is allowed to be carried per person
  • The bag is sealed
