Air Asia Free Flights

Mar 2008 Malaysia Travel News

Air Asia airline, the no frills budget airline in Asia is now offering 50,000 free seats for domestic travel in Malaysia from 11 June to 25 Sept 2008. Booking can be done online and the booking period is from 18-21 Mar 2008. Take note that the free seats do not include surcharges, fees and airport taxes.



Firefly Free Flights

Mar 2008 Malaysia Travel News

Firefly airline, a subsidiary of MAS will be offering free tickets during this coming KL MATTA FAIR from March 14-16, 2008. The free tickets are for travel from March 17 to October 25, 2008 to destinations such as Langkawi, Kota Baru, Kuantan, Kuala Terengganu, Penang and Subang. Thailand destinations are Phuket and Koh Samui.

Besides that, the "Island Escape Package" are also offered from RM119/person. It include free flight tickets and 3D/2N stay at a selected hotels.

Take note that the free flights does not include fuel surcharge and airport tax. You will still need to pay a minimum fee to fly.



KL International Book Fair 2008

A total of 185 companies will be taking part in this year's Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair whiich will be held in Putra World Trade Centre(PWTC) from April 4-13, 2008. It is expected to attract 1.5 million visitors. Visit Terengganu Year 2008 literature and cultural promotion will also be featured here. As a sideline of this fair, the International Book Industry Convention will be held from April 4-5.

All book enthusiasts are encouraged to make your trip to PWTC during this 10 days exhibition.



MATTA FAIR MARCH 2008

Election - Electoral Roll Checking

The Election Commission of Malaysia or Suruhanjaya Pilihanraya Malaysia is in the midst of preparing the country for the General Election on March 8, 2008. The nomination day is on Feb 24, 2008 and polling day is March 8, 2008. You can now do your Electoral Roll Checking to determine the location of your voting centre. All you need to do is key in your new identity card number and the details of your voting centre, state and Parliament will be displayed. You can then print out this details.

All travellers take note of this day as it will be a busy day for all Malaysians who qualify to vote.

Emergency Number

With effect since Oct 2007, the number to call in the event of emergency is now 999 be it to report a crime, fire or accident. Previous emergency lines of 994, 991 and 112 will no longer be used. This common line is to improve the response time of the police, hospitals, Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Department.

There will be 8 emergency call centres with 135 operators to answer the calls within 10 seconds.








Tour of Langkawi

The nine-stage Tour of Langkawi or popularly known as Le Tour de Langkawi will be held from Feb 9 to Feb 17. A total of 25 teams from all over the world will be participating. See the race routes and witness the race if you are in the vicinity.

KL-Putrajaya/Cyberjaya Expressway

Going to Cyberjaya from KL City Centre is now easier with the opening of KL-Putrajaya/Cyberjaya Expressway. It takes only 20 minutes to reach Cyberjaya from KLCC. The toll charges from KG Pandan Roundabout Interchange to Cyberjaya/Putrajaya Interchange is RM2.50 for cars, RM5 for small lorries, RM7.50 for big lorries, RM1.30 for taxis and RM2.50 for buses.



KL Tower International Forest Towerthon Challenge 2008

This year's KL Tower Towerthon Challenge will be held on Feb 3, 2008 at 8am. This is the seventh consecutive year that it is being held with the objective of getting the people to appreciate the nature, culture and adventure of the capital city. The Bukit Nanas Forest is located just beside the tower where participants will race before climbing the stairs. The finishing line is at Tower Head 3, 382 m above the sea level.

1 Utama - Genting Highlands Bus

Good news to all travellers to Genting Highlands. Launched on 15 Dec 2007, the 1 Utama-Genting Highlands bus service is now available from 8am to 7pm daily. The one way fare is RM8.50/adult and RM6.80/child inclusive of Skyway Transfer to Genting Highlands.



Eye On Malaysia Extended

The popular giant ferris wheel of Malaysia, Eye On Malaysia attraction has been extended to 31 August 2008. Originally, this attraction was schedule to end on Dec 31, 2007. This extension is to coincide with the extension of Visit Malaysia Year 2007 to 31 August 2008. More than 1 million visitors have taken the rides which is located at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa.



AirAsia New Destination

AirAsia will be operating the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore route effective Feb 1, 2008 and is offering low fares starting from RM29.90 one-way trip. This price excludes surcharges, fees and taxes. Overall, the price will still be lower compared to the fare of MAS or SIA. It recently offer 30,000 free seats for this route for travel period from Feb 1 to Oct, 25 2008.



15,000 Tiger Airways Free Seats

Tiger Airways is offering 15,000 free seats for the Singapore-Kuala Lumpur route to customers from Feb 1 to Oct 25, 2008. This new airline together with AirAsia will be operationg from LCCT terminal and are the additional two airlines operating this route besides MAS and SIA. Take note that you will still have to pay for the taxes and fees.

Malaysia Airlines Promotion

Malaysia Airlines is currently offering more than 30 packages under its Santai Supersavers online promotions which ends on Jan 15, 2008. The packages offered include 3D/2N stay with breakfast, return airfare and transfers to and from the airport. Traveling period is now until Feb 28, 2008.

The "Janji Sampai" package is a 3D/2N stay in Langkawi from RM260, 3D/2N stay in Penang from RM250. Take note that the price does not include fuel surcharge and other surcharges. Other packages to Kota Kinabalu and Kuching are also available. Bookings can be done online or at 1-300-88-3000 24-hour call centre.

MASWings Online Payment

If you are traveling within Sabah and Sarawak, take note that you can now make your bookings and payment via MASwings website. MASwings is a subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines and is operating 451 weekly flights that serves 21 destination using a fleet of eight Fokker 50 and five Twin Otter aircraft.



Travel Agents Charging 5% on MAS Tickets

Effective January 2008, travel agents will be charging at least 5% of the ticket price on bookings made for Malaysia Airlines tickets. The reason of the change is because MAS has withdrew the commission payment to agents under the new marketing plan.

Tickets purchased from MAS 24-hour call centre or ticket offices will also be charged a fee of RM15 for domestic travel and RM30 for international travel.

If you are traveling on your own, online bookings is the best option to avoid paying these service charge.



Kuala Terengganu, Newest Malaysia City

Kuala Terengganu, the capital of Terengganu State was declared a city on 1 January 2008. Hence, it became the 12th city of Malaysia. Tourists and city dwellers can now look forward to better quality of life as well as better service from the local council. More business and employment opportunities are expected to be created. The city council is now known as "Majlis Bandaraya Kuala Terengganu" or MBKT instead of MPKT.

Malaysia International Space Adventure (MISA)

This exhibition known as MISA '07 offers visitor a chance to experience space while on earth via a range of multi-dimensional and multi-sensory experiences. You will need about 2 hours walking through the exhibits which include MARS Rover, 4D Theatre, Magic Planet, Blast Zone, Space Station Interactive, Galactic Concourse, Space Shuttle Flight Deck and a History of Space Exploration.

Six Month Visa

With immediate effect, the visa for health tourists who are seeking treatment in Malaysia will be extended from 30 days to 6 months. This multiple entries visa will enable tourists to have more time in doing their treatment in various Malaysia Hospital . Application for health visa must include documents such as letter from the hospital treating the patient.
